Lake Havasu is one of those desert destinations that offers something for everyone—boaters, beach lovers, off-road adventurers, and anyone who just enjoys soaking up the sun. But if you're planning a trip to this vibrant waterfront oasis, you're probably trying to figure out the ideal time of year to visit.
The short answer is that it depends on what you want to get out of the trip, whether you want to beat the heat, dodge the crowds, or dive into the area’s famous events. Here's what you need to know about visiting throughout the year (and a bonus tip about where to stay).
Fall: A Local Favorite
If your ideal vacation includes less crowds, but plenty of sunshine, you might love visiting in the fall. Our temperatures remain in the high 80s and low 90s, plenty warm enough for water sports and time on the lake, but the busiest seasons have come to an end. The beaches tend to be a bit quieter and you'll enjoy some cooler temps in the beginning and end of the day.
If you ask the locals, fall is one of the best-kept secrets in Lake Havasu. By October, the summer crowds have dwindled, but the weather is still warm and sunny, the best of both worlds.
Winter: Mild and Peaceful
While you might not want to swim in Lake Havasu during the winter months, our climate is still quite mild and feels like a warm escape from true winter climates. Daytime highs typically stay in the 60s and low 70s, and rain is rare.
You'll have far fewer tourists, but still fun things to do even with some businesses closed for the season. It's the perfect time to go hiking and off roading, and if you visit in January you can check out the Lake Havasu Balloon Festival.
Spring: Perfect Weather and Lots of Fun
In the spring, the whole town wakes up as Spring Breakers descend on the town and bring it to life. Spring is arguably the most popular time to visit Lake Havasu, especially during March and April. The city buzzes as spring breakers, snowbirds, and adventurers all converge on the lake.
The iconic Spring Break scene adds extra excitement (great if you love energy, but not so much if you’re looking for a quiet vacation). If you want to make fun memories on the lake and really let loose, the Spring Break crowd is for you!
Summer: Sunshine and Water
Peak summer season in Lake Havasu brings hot sunshine. Temperatures regularly top 110°F, but if you’re all about water recreation, this is your time. With miles of shoreline and the Colorado River at your feet, you’ll find plenty of ways to cool off.
There are plenty of social events happening near the water, the nightlife is exciting, and you'll be happy to enjoy the water all day every day. If you want to explore anything other than the water, plan your activities for first thing in the morning to take advantage of the cooler temps.
