Planning a Weekend Getaway - lisa franks

Sometimes a quick getaway is just what the doctor ordered. Escaping for just a couple nights can be just the boost you need to get through a busy season at work or a long, boring winter. The key to planning a weekend getaway is choosing somewhere near enough that you won't spend most of your time traveling.

Actually, there are a few other keys we have in mind, and we're ready to share all our tips. Keep reading for our tried and true tricks to plan the perfect weekend getaway.

1. Choose your location

Of course, the first step is deciding where to go. Are you feeling a fun trip to the desert?

We also have the perfect place for you in Lake Havasu, with space for you and your friends in a newly built, fully equipped house complete with a pool in the backyard!

2. Set your budget

One of the best ways to make sure you can relax and enjoy your weekend is getting some of the less fun parts of vacationing out of the way early. This includes planning to pay for the trip. Set aside the money you want to spend before you get there, so you know what kind of trip you're planning to have.

Whether it's fine dining every night or taking advantage of the free perks in town, you can enjoy your weekend just as much. Hiking, window shopping, and cooking together in your vacation rental will be just as fun as a more luxurious trip! If you have the budget for something a little more spendy, make sure to plan ahead with some restaurants or experiences you don't want to miss!

3. Make an itinerary

We know some people prefer to wake up on vacation and spontaneously decide what to do, but we still recommend having some type of itinerary. Your weekend will fly by without the chance to check out some of the best things in town if you aren't careful, so take a look at the best restaurants, hiking spots, local attractions, and other things to do in town a few weeks before you go. Make a list of the things you want to try and when they might fit in your weekend plans.

No need to have a full agenda for the weekend, but deciding on one or two things you don't want to miss will help the trip feel extra special.

4. Book in advance

As you plan your itinerary, there may be some things you realize you can book in advance. This is a great way to make sure you can do what you want on your trip, and to save you work once you are in vacation mode.

Make reservations at a restaurant, book tickets for a tour, or fill out the paperwork for your off-roading adventure before you arrive to make everything more about the fun, and less about the work.

5. Take a digital detox

We highly recommend setting your phone aside as much as possible during the weekend. Enjoy the person or people you are with and leave work, social media, and other distractions behind. This is one of the best ways to make sure you come home feeling connected and refreshed from your weekend away.
